Japan is home to an amazing array of crazy service stations. 7-11, FamilyMart, Lawsons, AMPM just to name a few. Considering there is next to no supermarkets around and being in a new country calls for trying their crazy snack offerings. Recently I cleaned my room and scanned some of the snack wrappers that I collected. oh yes, I have no life.

OREOS:

'Oreo Bits Sandwich': This Speaks for itself. It is basically just mini Oreos that come in a bag like chips. No need to mess with the regular Oreo flavour, they are just like you would expect Oreos to taste.

'Oreo White Chocolate Stick': You can keep this one, I am not a fan of white chocolate.

'Oreo Chocolate Bar Mini': Best snack ever. Individually wrapped Oreo bars, no idea what was in them but it was some sort of berry with chocolate flavour. AMAZING. nothing at all like Oreos though.

Sportsgirl is beginning to look more and more like Topshop these days . But my only complaint is that im too poor to buy anything. With one interstate trip and two overseas trips this year and the fact that i am now a fulltime student, my funds are extremely limited and i have given up on shopping...or at least am trying to.

the new TV for Sportsgirl range is now in store and there are a few things i like, although i am not overly impressed. there is also a pair of leggings but i couldnt find a pic.

got these out to sell and decided to keep them instead! argh! they are both too big but i cant bear to part with them. the orange and gray one i got like 6 or 7 years ago from an opshop in oakleigh and used to wear all the time, its too big now but i think i will wear it again. i only got the silver (with shoulder pads and black flocking) jacket not that long ago (for bargain price of $2) but even though it is a tad lady gaga-esque and a bit too big...i think i may have to wear it!

cutest thing ive ever seen. ever. ive always wanted a pet hedgehog. my bf emailed these pics too me. i have no idea where they originated. but words cannot describe how cute this thing is!! ive been soooo busy lately i havent updated in ages, ive started tafe (4 weeks ago...) and a new job once a week, and traveling to the city constantly is taking up a lot of my time. doesnt help that i have been going out a lot either. this week i aim to be in bed by 10 every night...instead of 2am.

Because it has been so hideously hot the last week a ringtail possum that lives in a corner of our sort of patio/bbq area has come down from his usual hangout to live (during the day) under a bag of potting mix that is under a table....

so theres a pick of his bum under the potting mix and his usual hang out. but usually he is hidden, he must have stuck his tail out to get some cool air....

it was SO worth the 2 and a bit hour drive to bendigo. fab dresses mainly by Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy and a few other designers that were successful at the time such as Jacques Fath.

I am in love with every single piece of exquisite clothing i saw there. As well as clothes (and a few accessories) there are also photos and miniature dolls. Everything back then was so glamorous, i wish it was like that now and not all fake blonde/fake tan/ fake boobs fake fake fake.

i originally wanted this particular piece by Insight, coz it has pandas on it and is so super cute. but i tried it on and i felt like a sausage with printed skin wearing it. so i gave it a miss. i think i need something that has a more flattering shape for a girl with curves and more of a substantial means of keeping it up. in the Insight suit i felt like my boobs would fall out if i lifted my arms up. And im more kate hudson than pamela anderson.

2. KANYE WEST@ Good Vibrations (Sidney Myer Music Bowl) 9/2/08
good vibes was a rainly miserable melbourne summers day, i pretty much missed seeing other bands so that i could get a good spot to see kanye from (undercover) and it was worth it. This was a preview of the Glow in the Dark tour and it was amazing, costume changes and all.

3. ARCADE FIRE @ Big Day Out (Flemington Race Course) 28/1/08
In order to see Arcade Fire i got squished half to death at boiling point for almost 2 hours. never mind, it was worth it. As a whole BDO was shit though.

4. THE FAINT @ Prince Band Room 26/9/08
I had waited so long to see the Faint. they did not disappoint.

seeing 'dawn of the dead' played live in the rain was the highlight of my day.

Got tickets to this gig on the day for half price. They hadnt sold many tickets because Cut Copy were playing a sold out show the same night. Great live band considering I didnt really know much of their stuff.

this was the biggest let down ever. and i spent most of the show avoiding gross old men who were trying to sleaze onto us. but still, it just scrapes into the top 10 as i didnt really see that many bands this year.

really. they should. they are SO annoying. i was trying to browse the cds in the library when some mum comes and parks her fuck off pram in my way and then her little brat spends the whole time wandering around, getting in my way and going 'mum whats this? mum whats this? mum whats this?' SO annoying. the library is supposed to be QUIET! and then because she wouldnt move the pram i walked around from another way to get passed her and what does she do.....moves the pram RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! ever heard of common courtesy you fucking bitch? 1. tell your kid to shut it and 2. dont park you hummer sized pram in peoples ways!

in other news, i went and saw twilight last night and spent the whole time thinking that robert pattinson (edward) was a total babe. but i HATED him in harry potter (its all about oliver wood baby). i think the reason he is such a hottie in twilight is that coat that he wears! seriously, the lack of hufflepuff uniform and addition of grey wool coat = hot robert pattinson....
its true, clothes maketh the man...or whatever that quote is...

Friday the fifth of December was a beautiful summers day (a rare occurrence lately)! We started the evening off by going to the Corner Hotel's rooftop kitchen for dinner and drink before walking over to Rod Laver. As we walked onto the floor Scribe said goodnight and walked off the stage, we were all glad about this. After a short wait Nas and his band came out and played a fantastic set. I do wish he had played his older songs in full instead of a medley of older songs and then the new (crapper) songs in full. For some reason Nas was censoring himself as well...what was all that about?

Kanye's first song was Paranoid (off 808s & Heartbreak)and i was so incredibly pumped because i love the new album and had heard he wasnt going to play any songs from it besides love lockdown and heartless. Someone Kanye made all the new songs go for about 15 mins each whilst he whinged over the top of them, at some stages people in the audience just started having conversations with one another and the murmur of conversation could be heard clearer than kanye himself! The whole 'penny' throwing incident ended up being entertainment for a crowd that was getting slightly restless.
The show was, after all, wrongly promoted as the Glow In The Dark tour (which was amazing and i saw it at the start of the year). So instead of only playing 2 songs of 808s & Heartbeak, kanye instead played many songs of that album and the others were mainly from graduation (with a few older hits scattered and cut sort in between).
I forgot what song but at one stage Kanye FORGOT THE LYRICS and instead mumbled the line. best thing to see! Mr. Perfect fucks up.

all in all, the show was at times boring and not at all as good as i had expected. Glad i saw him at the beginning of the year when he was far more entertaining.

i got bored and followed everyone else....

Dear Mr. West,
I just went out and bought a copy of your latest album 808's & Heartbreak (not that you need the money) and i must say, although i hated love lockdown at first i've now grown to like it and i also love the album. I never thought i'd say it but it will be in my top 5 for the year (number one will probably be Santogold, im sure you will understand).
I've always been a fan, even though i may have dissed you in the past (*cough*imayhavesaidyousoldoutwith'graduation*cough*) i didnt really mean it (and graduation has now been on high rotation for me). but i dont act like i hate you or go out of my way to bag you like many of my friends now do.
Im actually very impressed with the new album, i listened to it on the way home in the car and it almost made me cry (not coz its so good or anything, dont go getting your hopes up), but because of the honesty in the lyrics and the fact i could relate to them. To be honest i was not at all impressed with your performance of love lockdown at the mtv emas and im sure you realise that not many people were, but you redeemed yourself with estelle (american boy is my fav song of the year).
The only song on the album that i skip is the first track, say you will, which is pretty good considering that i skip all the skits on your other albums (i dont get them, they aren't funny to a white aussie girl).

I saw you back in feb of this year at the good vibrations festival, you were amazing, costume changes and all, you made what was a crappy and unimpressive raining day worthwhile (even if your record company took down the video i put up on youtube).

So i think we should get married. your good tunes and impeccable dress sense will override your wankiness. and im sure you will be away a lot of the time anyway so i wont have to deal with it. when you are around we can go shopping together and you can buy me all the things to make me happy. i know i dont have any D's and im merley some boring australian girl and not some gorgeous exotic legs-up-to-neck woman that you would normally go for but i will be able to tell it like it is and im sure we will hate all the same people. and we both like clothes. fab, no?

oh and i can cook.

im so glad that the weather is getting nicer and spring is finally feeling like spring. everyone (especially me) is so much happier. before, i sat outside and ate my fruit salad sitting in the sun, it was fantastic. i cant wait for longer sunnier days, lounging around and going to the beach!

i like going overseas and buying wacky chocolate and lollies or even someone else bringing it back for me. my bf came back with a bag of chocolate from america and gave me some bars. i hated them all. im glad of this coz i know that when i go to america i wont get fat on chocolate.

The 3 musketeers was the best of the bars, it was kinda like a big milkyway but a little more sugary and sickening.

The little gold wrappers contained the chocolates that i got with my johnny cupcakes tshirt (present from bf), they were weird but nice, chocolate shell with an inside of some crispy mint and in an asortment of colours (but the flavors didnt differ).

U-NO is apparently 'super creamy chocolate', it kind reminded me of when your grandma gives you ultra cheap 'praline' chocolates that sort of taste like soap. you know...the ones from priceline that are 'from belgium'.

I also had a hersheys almond bar or something but i dont have a photo. is hersheys really supposed to be americas best chocolate? coz it tastes like munt. seriously. it was awful, i asked my brother to taste it and his reaction was 'hmmm strange after taste...sorta like vom'. not sort of, exactly.

Reeses fastbreak and king size peanut butter cups: whats the obsession with peanut butter flavored chocolate in the states? the fastbreak was bearable but after eating one of the kingsize peanutbutter cups i thought i was having a heart attack, im not joking. i hate to drink like 4 glasses of water to counterreact the utter shite id just consumed. american chocolates seem to have this real grainy texture, sort of like sugary bread crumbs dipped in melted butter. no wonder they are the fattest nation.

i know im not a real chocolate lover but i dont think even my chocolate obsessed mother would have liked this selection. i was pumped at thinking they might have awesome chips, coz chips are my thing...salt and vinegar, herb and spice, twisties.....love them all...but i asked a friend who is currently living in NYC and she said the chips suck too, even hot chips. yay for not liking any bad american food??

Chatting to some friends at work the other day it became apparent that in this day and age if we are not sure how to do something we search for a video on youtube to teach us.
As soon as you type 'how to' in youtube's search box it starts suggesting things for you. However the suggestions that come up prove that people are using youtube for not entirely wholesome reasons because some of the things that came up were 'how to create a virus', 'how to make a bomb' and 'how to be emo'. Perhaps these types of videos shouldn't be allowed?

on wednesday night i had a dream that someone offered me Jaffas and i couldn't believe that you could still buy them and i wondered if i would like them now that i am older because as a child i despised them. I woke up thursday still wondering if you were still able to buy Jaffas and if i would in fact like them now. That night i went and saw The Dark Knight (which lived up to the hype and was amazing) and we bought a mixed lollybag (a rip-off at $5) only to find that inside the lollybag was a bunch of JAFFAS! I came to the conclusion that they are still disgusting but was totally weirded out by the fact that i had dreamt about these gross lollies the night before.

last friday night i was out and about and ran into a friend of mine who i thought was wearing the skirt i wanted from american apparel, i commented on it only to be told that it was in fact from supre! i was shocked and surprised as i thought supre only consisted of fluro mini skirts and slogan tshirts, so i journeyed into my local supre to find out that the skirt in question was now on sale for $15! bargain and a half!
i was also surprised to find that they had a few cute things in there and i might venture back....even if the staff are ever so annoying and daft, like come on, the girl who served me had never even heard of american apparel!
i've wanted the skirt for ages but just never got around to getting it, im over the melb AA store, so full of 'hi im a hipster, cheap mondays and white shoes' crowd. also. so fucking sick of faux glasses.

i've been thinking for a very long time now that i'd like a pair of high waisted jeans (skinny leg, not wide leg). However im pretty sure that with my shape i couldn't pull it off and the only people they seem to look good on are super skinny/tall model types.
Found two pairs i like, the first are by Sass & Bide and the second by Karen Walker:

On saturday i was at V fest and there were many girls trying to pull off the high waisted look, most were just wearing cheap mondays which because they are a unisex jean are a bit more high waisted than regular girls jeans, but 80% of the girls wearing them looked absolutely hideous and i questioned weather or not they had even looked in the mirror when they were purchasing them. Having a pair of jeans that suit your body shape is essential. it doesnt matter how much you love the jeans and want the jeans (or how much they are the 'must have' jeans of the season), if they look shit when you put them on, dont buy them!
oh and boys seem to HATE the high waisted phenomenon. girls dress for girls.

I saw be kind rewind last thursday and it was BRILLIANT! i am perhaps a little bit biased because i LOVE anything by Michel Gondry but i was crying with laughter it was that good. even if you dont find it funny you can still sit back and enjoy the crazy hand made sets.

in other good news, American Apparel is finally open on chapel st! unfortunately this means that everyone will discover this much loved brand and claim it as there own and then everyone will own my vegas leggings that i bought in japan. DRAINER. but still this means no more online shopping which is good, coz i've been waiting a week for my socks to arrive!
and i have a massive AA wish list......(who doesnt?)

a trend im rather sick of at the moment is FAKE glasses! wearing glasses is a pain in the arse, why would you wanna pretend to have them? i've heard of a few people wearing pairs that actually have real lenses in them, thats SO bad for your eyes.

Lawrie and I went to the Bootlegger exhibition at Until Never on wednesday night. its a collection of bandanas each sent in by the artist in a digital format then hand screenprinted onto fabric the size of bandanas...and uh...made into bandanas. anyway there were some really awesome ones and we both would have got some only they were 66 bucks. hand made art and all that. pffft think of the poor kids. took some photos anyway. oh yeah and they had the original art works as well as the bandana form and the bandanas are limited to 20 and each is numbered.

i hadnt heard about it until my friend pointed it out when we were on the train to the city. but apparently it was in the age, some dudes stealing milk crates in the dead of night and placing them like lego characters on the tops of buildings near train lines with the help of rock climbing equiptment. anyway i took this photo last saturday, its just past victoria park station on the epping/hurstbridge line. the train didnt stop and so my photo is pretty shit. my friend said they are illegal and get taken down real fast but it was there when i went past yesterday, and i forgot to take a picture. doh.

havent had much time for the old blog as of late because of work and assignments etc so im just showing it some love by posting a few links.
i shall post some photos i took hopefuly later this week.
first of is sleevery a website dedicated to weird and wacky record sleeves, its pretty awesome. i showed my friend who is a bit of an audio nut and he loved it.
the next is called 'Running The Numbers: An American Self-potrait' which is a collection of
artwords that depict the number of things used each day within america, for example; one
depicts 11,000 jet trails, equal to the number of commercial flights in the US every eight hours and another depicts 29,569 handguns, equal to the number of gun-related deaths in the US in 2004.
and this is a collection of handrawn typography and stuff.
and now i must get back to assignments.

centre pompidou video art @ acmi

Yesterday my mum and i went and checked out the centre pompidou video art 1965-2005 exhibition at acmi. it was pretty awesome. there of course was some stuff that didnt interest me that much but most of the instalations were really awesome. i really liked Interface (Peter Campus, USA, 1972) where a pane of glass features as both a screen and a mirror and visitors can superimpose their relflection onto the screen, its pretty ghost-like. i also really liked Switch ( Tony Oursler, USA 1996) which is a series of cloth dolls whose faces are projections of real faces (including David Bowie's). they are kind of creepy in a way. a few of them were a little bit interactive such as Interface and Going Around the Corners Piece (Bruce Nauman, USA, 1970) which uses surveillance cameras that track visitors around corners. In order to see everything properly and sit and watch all the videos it is a good idea to have quite a bit of time on your hands if you are going to go visit this exhibition. its free and running until sunday the 27th of may. more info on the acmi website.

Curvy exhibition graff thing in hosier lane

Today i went and checked out the graff that was done as part of the Curvy exhibition in hosier lane. its pretty awesome, however my camera decided to run out of batteries and so i didnt get as many photos as i wanted to. pretty awesome to have a fafi piece in melbourne. im not so impressed with deb though, i reckon she just steals fafi's style. annnnd i think the fox is really awesome (and i dont even like foxes). i was disapointed in the fafi and adidas colaboration this year. oh well that really has nothing to do with what this post is about!

Science of Sleep

incase you weren't aware it is the new film from french director Michel Gondry who is mostly famous for his music videos and also his film eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. anyway i think science of sleep will be a crazy mix of film and animation. it should be awesome. here is the official site for the film.

My family and i went along to the movies the other night to see 300. i wasnt really interested in seeing it but i wasnt paying and so i didnt care. i'd give it a 2 out of 5. it was really quite funny, but it wasnt meant to be! i dont know what they were aiming for, did they want a serious film or some mythological joke? the persian king looked like a transvestite and was surrounded by characters that looked as if they had come out of the bar in star wars, im suprised jar jar binks wasnt wandering around there, i mean they did have a goat playing a flute at one stage (wtf!?). Yeah the CGI stuff was pretty good and the battle scenes were awesome, but the film just lacked substance. the lead actor that played the spartan king kept slipping into his scottish accent and david wenham's narration was awful. maybe they didnt care about the acting and were mainly concerned with the post production which apparently took an entire year to complete. all the 3d stuff was done using Maya, XSI and Lightwave (according to IMDB). so i guess i can appreciate the 3d aspects of the film and the way it was created and everything, i just didnt enjoy the film and found it so bad that it was funny. i really dont understand how it passed the test screenings. half the cinema when i went had lost interest and talked through all the parts that werent battles and everyone else just spent the time sniggering and the complete ridiculousness of some of the characters. i'd wait until it was on dvd.

polaroid rentals

this blog mentions a bar in the states in which customers are able to rent a polaroid camera for $15 already loaded with film. its a pretty cool idea. i mean all the trendy fashionista indie kids are loving the polaroid cameras these days, i guess its 'vintage' and its nice to have a hard copy of something rather than 150 photos on your digital camera or some rather shabby ones on your phone. but then again, polaroids dont take the best of photos.

everyone should get last.fm (mine can be found here). its probably just another thing to distract from doing assignments or whatever, but i think its pretty cool. it tracks what you listen to and then creates charts of your music and shows you your listening patterns, it also gives you 'neighbours' aka other people that like the same stuff, and you can leave people comments or send them private messages. last.fm also reccomends different bands and you can download free mp3's of alot of bands. there are also 'radio' stations you can listen to, such as the radio station of your neighbours or perhaps ones that sound like other bands you like.

Curvy 4, wooden toy mag and no comply

Thursday night lawrie and i went and checked out the Curvy 4 launch at Until Never gallery and then the wooden toy mag launch at Rancho Notorious, which was part of the No Comply festival that will be on during april. We basically went to the Curvy launch to check out the work of french graffiti artist/ adidas colaborator Fafi. However, we were a little disapointed because there wasnt much of her work there, but still all the other artists work that was there was still pretty good (curvy focuses on female artists) and the best stuff was the adidas originals hoodies that had been worked on. the bad thing was that we had missed the free alcohol and the gallery was about a billion degrees inside. After watching a few songs by Gameboy/Gamegirl who were playing live we left and headed over to Rancho Notorious to check out the wooden toy launch. The wooden toys were cool, but the bloody magazine wasnt even out yet! why have a launch if it isnt out!? but yeah the best thing there was the wooden cassette tape, pretty awesome. on saturday night we headed over to fed square for the opening of the no comply skateboard exhibition, which is 150 skateboards whose decks have been art-ified by some artists. mostly graff sort of stuff. there were some awesome ones. its on until the 21st of april at the atrium at fed square daily from 10am to 5pm and its free so it is worth checking out.

sneakers: classics to customs @ NGV

So i finally went to the sneaker exhibition at NGV it was good, not what i had expected but im not sure exactly what i had expected to begin with. Mostly i was just jealous that i didnt own all those shoes myself. The thing i found lame was the way they kind of tried to emphasise the whole 'underground culture' aspect of sneaker collecting by their use of crappy club-like lighting, hip hop beats and crappy animations shown on tvs, i didnt think that it added to the exhibition in a good way, i mean it was probably better than if they were all just chucked into a white room but the atmosphere of it seemed just that little bit too contrived. For some reason sneaker collecting has just become really popular all of a sudden, it seems like everyone is doing it these days. im not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing, it could be good because it widens the market and makes collecting rare sneakers harder or whatever, but then if everyone is doing it it kind of takes away from its underground cult following. if i owned all those shoes i'd wear them.
